It's nearly Christmas!

All the shopping is done, the decorations are up and the mince pies are just waiting to be eaten. I have already watched numerous cooking programmes discussing the best oil for roast potatoes and how to prep your roast turkey.

This year I wanted to get into the spirit by buying a festive jumper. I googled my little heart out and found a couple that I think will look great for Xmas lunch or your work Christmas party.

I love the simplicity of the Topshop jumper, it is subtle yet you would not be short of compliments in this number. Don't be afraid to buy men's jumpers and accessories. Sometimes they are much cheaper then women's and have great designs. The little penguins on the New Look hat are very cute and it would look great dressed down with hi tops. I also think the Coca Cola jumper is an interesting alternative to the traditional Christmas jumper.

Man vs Food

Adam Richman

Man vs Food is one of my favourite shows and the main reason I want to visit America. The programme is hosted by the lovable and charismatic Adam Richman who loves food more than anything. On his journey around America he makes pit stops at the best diners, restaurants and fast food deli's around and samples their dishes. From steaks to ice cream Adam eats them all, but they must be SUPER SIZE.

My trips to Harvester pale in comparison to the meals served up to Adam. Yet, it is the challenge at the end that demonstrates who is the victor, Man or Food.

Pizzas the size of car wheels, nachos weighing more than a new born baby and cakes that would give you a heart attack. Adam loves em' all. Not once does he say, 'Yuck, pass me a salad!'.
My favourite challenges however are the spicy, hot, ghost chilli laden meals where Adam must eat it all without passing out.  He is regularly seen sweating and crying his way through the wings or burger, yet it is great viewing!

But who does win, man or food? Well, if Adam's weight after several seasons is anything to go by food is definitely winning. But, I bet Adam loves it.

Promise Blog Revisited

So, have I kept my promise blog?

Errrm yes and no.

I have been applying for jobs since the last blog. But is it my fault that nothing has come through yet?
I need some more time to visit another country I think!
Uh Oh no books have yet been read, but I have purchased more to add to my massive pile.
I have brought a one sentence a day book and have filled it out. I'm rather proud!
Major fail on the clothes front. A shopping bag is glaring at me as I type.
I have being saying yes more. I've met new people and have been to a festival. Get Me. But I have also been assertive. No means no people!!
I am most proud of this one. I have cooked more for my family. A quiche and a pasta bake. Move over Nigella.
I am also easting slightly healthier. Well, I had three salads last week. That counts.

I'd give myself a B- . Must try harder!

Promise Blog

I've decided to write a blog to document all the different things I wish to do in the near future. I think writing all these things down online will help to remind me what I need to do publicly and hopefully I won't forget my promises!

So, I promise to ...

To start applying to jobs I want to do, time to leave the safety of part time work.
Visit a new country once a year.
Start to read books for pleasure.
Buy a one sentence a day book and to use it, everyday.
To spend less money on clothes and shoes, only buying pieces I really need and want.
Say yes to things more but to not be afraid to say no. It's my life.
Start to cook more exciting dishes. A girl can't live on pasta and crisps alone!
To exercise more and to eat less sweets. (I am eating sweets while writing this)
Finally, to Blog more often and to update my Pinterest.

Rollers, Fairytales and anything Pinteresting!

Time to blog. Once again it's been a while. Whoops.
I'm just going to write about a couple of different things within my life that I am currently liking or hating.

Firstly,I have just asked to join Pinterest. I am quite excited about this new social site as it's focus is mainly upon images and creating your own interesting board. Yet, I am confused about why the site is invite only and you have to wait for them to approve you to join. Rather time consuming for a site which is new and looking to build its profile. Surely, it should be like Twitter where you can be tweeting within minutes of signing up. If the process takes a while surely people will lose interest in Pinterest? However, I hope they let me start an account and start to pin images. I feel it will be a great way to show new fashion pieces I see online and to research what is popular!

I also want to talk about a television programme which I have been watching religiously. It is called Once Upon a Time and is broadcast on channel 5 every Sunday night. The American show tells the story of a mother reunited with her adopted son who needs her help. He believes that all of the members of his town, Storybrooke, are  fairytale characters under an evil witches curse. As viewers we see different plots relating to the characters, some set in reality others are in a fantasy kingdom proving that all the cast are magical . Snow white, Cinderella and Rumplestiltskin are a few of the fairytale characters which appear. This  has had me hooked with references being present to classic stories and Disney films as well as the reality plots echoing a soap opera or drama. I have recently heard that there will be a second series and I am thrilled. I hope channel 5 snap it up and fast!

I have discovered velcro rollers and I have fallen in love with what they do to my hair! I am wondering if I should invest in some hot rollers or sleep in rollers which seem to be a new celeb trend. I am trying to grow my hair so perhaps this will stop me straightening my hair as this causes so much damage to my tips.

kitten heels are my style no go!

For the past three years or so every weekend for me has involved shoes, shoes and more shoes. Working in the footwear department of a high street retail store has led to me handling all different trends, styles and heel heights. I have become some what of a shoe connoisseur with an opinion forming in me that I have to express. I HATE low heeled shoes. Whether it be the wedge or a kitten heel they are to me pointless and rather unflattering. For me (I am talking personally here) there is no middle ground a shoe should either be completely flat or a very high heel. Whenever a heel is needed I find myself reaching for a court shoe or a wedge that will boost my height and my confidence. While flats are my comfort whether at work, university or even at a bar you can usually find me rocking flats.

YUCK
However, if you checked my (vast) shoe collection no kitten heels will be found. Although I am aware of the benefit of a smaller heel my feet prove my distinct dislike for this style. A small heel does not make you feel sexy or comfortable instead it allows for cankles and a slump.

So, that is what I would place in  room 101, my pet hate and my number one shoe enemy.

Media Studies Pep Talk

I must apologise for my lack of blogs these previous months.  I have little excuse for my absence except that it is my final year of university and I have been worrying about my future! However, a talk that I attended this afternoon inspired me to return and to write down a couple of my thoughts.

Since the beginning of my university degree I have often wondered which career I should pursue and how this can be achieved. I regularly worry if my degree will actually lead me into the world of media or if all the theories and assessments would make me run away. However, the guest speakers at this media talk convinced me that there is a key area that is becoming increasingly important in the media world and it happens to be a passion (obsession) of mine. Twitter.

I cannot say that I am a constant tweeter. I have not reached over 100 followers or had anything trend. However, if I am watching a TV programme the first place I find myself logging into is Twitter. If I want to find out a celebs reaction I go to their profile page for a direct quote. If I feel the need to express my anger / happiness I will hashtag it. Twitter seems to be the way forward in the media world. Networking can be difficult for students but Twitter is a social networking site allowing you to follow those you may want to work for and celebrities you may (one day) interview.

When I left the world of facebook and signed up to twitter many of my friends did not join me. However, its appearance in magazines, television programmes and online sources has led to a conversion. This makes me believe that Twitter will be a great way to enter the media world, express my points of view and become a source of many jobs for graduates.

In turn online pages such as blogs and websites can demonstrate to an employer your skills and passion for the job that you wish to pursue. So, I shall be blogging more frequently in future!
